Qatar plans to build a new methanol plant to produce two million tonnes a year at a cost of $540 million.

The plant, which will be built over 42 months from now will be constructed by Taiwan's Chinese Petroleum Corp. in cooperation with the Qatar Fuel Additives Company (Qafac), the official Qatar News Agency reported.

The Taiwanese company is one of the founding stake holders in Qafac. The proposed facility would be the world's largest methanol plant, the report said.
