Qatar Airways is undertaking an e-business initiative as part of its aggressive expansion strategy provided by software corporation, Oracle. The project will centralize its financial and human resources operations through an Oracle E-Business Suite implementation that will cover Qatar Airways and its group of subsidiaries.

Qatar Airways’ new e-business initiative will complement other projects such as the expansion of its fleet, the launch of new destinations, and the passenger capacity increase of Qatar's international airport.

The Oracle implementation will enable Qatar Airways to have an up-to-the-minute view of its business, allowing the organization to make informed decisions during this period of critical development and investment.

As part of its new strategy, Qatar's national airline has set measurable financial goals, such as reducing finance and administrative costs, while cutting information technology (IT) -related expenses and improving internal efficiencies.

Since Qatar Airways also intends to raise the number of destinations to more than 50 in the next couple of years, the human resources component of the company's e-business strategy is key to the project's overall success. Initially, more than 4,000 Qatar Airways staff will benefit from the self-service and payroll components of the Oracle E-Business Suite. The Oracle solution's Web accessibility will enable greater connectivity for Qatar Airways' widely dispersed staff, as they travel to destinations throughout Europe, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia.

Qatar Airways currently has eighteen aircraft and flies to thirty-five different destinations. Qatar Airways will be raising a new fleet of eight A 330-200 aircraft .The first Airbus A 330-200 was delivered last May and the second was delivered July. It is also the launch customer for the newly developed ultra-capacity A380 and the Airbus Corporate Jetliner ACJ 319.

The airline plans to double its fleet to over 30 aircraft and take the number of its destinations to 50 by the end of 2004. The national carrier was established in 1994 and has been restructured in 1997 with a whole new corporate identity.

The carrier has developed other division to complement its major objectives such as Qatar Holidays, Qatar Duty Free Company, Qatar Aviation Services, and Qatar Catering Unit. Qatar Airways management is in charge of the recent major development of Doha International Airport. — (menareport.com)
