ALBAWABA - In recent years, there has been a belief that placing a wet phone in rice can absorb the water and help the device return to its normal state.

Apple has cautioned against drying wet or submerged iPhones using rice grains, according to the Arab portal for technology news. The company recommends exercising patience when an iPhone is exposed to water, advising to immediately turn off the phone, hold and shake it for some time with the charging port facing down to try to remove any trapped water, then leave it in a well-ventilated area to air dry naturally.

It may take a full day for complete drying. Afterward, attempting to connect the phone to the charger can be done, then opening it after ensuring its response to charging. Sometimes, a warning of liquid presence in the charging port may appear when attempting to charge the phone and use it before it is completely dry, so it is advisable to leave it longer until it dries completely.

However, if repeating the previous steps and waiting for 24 hours does not make the phone work, it is necessary to visit one of the company's maintenance centers to deal with the phone.

Device Damage

It is worth noting that most websites suggest placing the phone in a container filled with rice and leaving it for a day or more, or using a hairdryer or similar methods to dry it. While these methods may succeed in removing moisture from the phone, Apple clearly warns against such methods, as using rice, for example, may damage the device if one of the small grains enters the phone.

The company also cautioned against using cotton tools, air dryers, or external heat sources to dry the phone.

It is worth mentioning that current iPhone models feature a high degree of water resistance unlike older versions. They currently support water and dust resistance with an IP68 standard, although some issues may occur when fully immersing the phones in water for a long time.
