Xposure 2017 Concludes, Reinforcing Power of Photography

Xposure 2017 lit up new perspectives for photography enthusiasts through a host of workshops, lectures and seminars organised by world-renowned photographers and artists.

The second edition of the International Photography Festival, Xposure, the region’s largest photography event, which witnessed the participation of some of the biggest names in international photography and leading international brands, concluded on 25th November at Expo Centre Sharjah.

The four-day festival, themed ‘Captivating Stories’, was organised by the Sharjah Government Media Bureau, SGMB, and was a celebration of the creative spirit and served as a bridge between different cultures and ideologies to communicate via works of photography, according to the Sharjah 24 news website.

Xposure 2017 lit up new perspectives for photography enthusiasts through a host of workshops, lectures and seminars organised by world-renowned photographers and artists. The 27 indoor and outdoor exhibitions in Sharjah and Dubai, featuring works of 32 internationally recognised photographers, made it a special event for those with a passion to seek out the world and the human condition through visual arts.

Speaking on the power and impact of photography in a media-driven world, where the level of visual consumption is like never before, Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Sharjah Media Council, SMC, said, "After the overwhelming reception to the inaugural edition of Xposure, it was critical to us to exceed expectations of the professional and emerging community of photographers, who eagerly waited to return to the festival for new discoveries, interactions and experiences this year.

"There has been an explosion in the last four years of new media, and also printed versions, and Xposure aims to create a vibrant community of photographers in the region, where they can come, share their ideas and expertise, learn from one another and really receive a strong push in the creative directions they are seeking out. The reason we bring some of the most established names in the field of international photography, representing every possible genre, is to help our talents to become recognised and break into a new business."

The festival concluded with an award ceremony in which all participants - the 32 international guest photographers and the 17 winners of the festival’s photography competition - were recognised for contributing to the success of Xposure 2017.
