VCUQatar presents ‘Openness is the New Normal’

As part of the Crossing Boundaries Lecture Series, Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar presents a lecture by Italian interaction designer Giorgio Olivero entitled ‘Openness is the New Normal’ on Wednesday, 26 March, 2014 at 6:00 pm at the atrium at VCUQatar. The event is open to the public.
In recent years a novel combination of open hardware platforms, open-source tools, open licenses and digital fabrication machines have created a solid ground for the explosion of innovative projects and social innovation fuelled by the collaborative DIY ethos of 'makers' culture and new educational practices. One of the main enablers of this evolution is the open hardware platform Arduino. Olivero's experience as the project’s creative director will provide an overview on the potential unleashed by matching openness with new practices in design.
Giorgio Olivero is design director at TODO, a design studio and innovation consultancy based in Italy. At TODO he has led projects for clients such as Arduino, Bank of Italy, Nike, Fiat, Doha Film Institute, MTV and many other companies, museums and institutions. His works embrace interactive experiences as main design medium, as well visual and strategic design.
Olivero received his Master’s degree in Interaction Design from the Interaction Design Institute Ivrea. As an educator, he has lectures at IUAV Venice, VCUQatar, Siena University, SUPSI and Sint Lucas Antwerpen.
VCUQatar’s Crossing Boundaries Lecture Series reflects the cross-disciplinary nature of the featured speakers who are representatives of excellence in creative and innovative thinking.
‘Openness is the New Normal’ is the last in the series of six lectures and will be presented on 26 March at 6:00 pm at the atrium at VCUQatar. The lecture is open to the public.
