United Development Company (UDC), a leading Qatari shareholding company, has signed up as the silver sponsor of “Qatar Achievements on Vocational Safety” book, set to be released in collaboration with Qatar Chamber of Commerce, on April 28, which marks the celebrations of World Day for Safety and Health.

UDC and other companies listed in the book will highlight their achievements in the field of occupational safety, in order to share the successes and benefits, while several Safety Awards will be distributed during the book launch to selected winners in all sectors who prove commitment to implementing the best occupational safety standards and requirements.

As a leading Qatari development and investment company engaged in the establishment and management of a combination of project activities and commercial enterprise, UDC, as a first-choice joint venture partner for international investors in Qatar, is keen on creating and maintaining the safest and healthiest working environments for all those who work with the group by constantly searching for new ways, methods and technologies that will improve safety standards.

Although the scale of Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) activities varies across UDC and its subsidiaries, it is specifically paramount on The Pearl-Qatar, UDC’s flagship urban development, where health, safety and environmental regulations are in place. At The Pearl-Qatar, UDC’s HSE Department carries daily checks, audits and site visits to guarantee utter compliance through joint inspection with contractors in the various precincts on the Island. A UDC-initiated Contractor Incentive Program has been in place for several years now, which acknowledges contractors’ hard work and commitment to employing environmentally safe and conscious work standards and practices on the construction site.

The Pearl-Qatar facilities and common areas are equipped with the latest firefighting technology, particularly those needed for firefighting in water-bound environments like The Pearl. Standards and procedures regulating working at dangerous heights, working with machinery and wearing the correct personal protective equipment and clothing are strictly adhered to.

All health and safety issues relating to the residents are equally catered for through a highly-trained and hugely-experienced health and safety team, using some of the most sophisticated technology possible to make visitors and residents feel safe and secure.

Of equal priority at The Pearl-Qatar is securing the Island’s 35-kilometer coastline. High-tech and high-speed boats, state-of-the-art technology and navigation systems combine with the Qatari Coastguard to provide the best response to sea searches, risk operations, and emergency cases.

To that end, the said book release will be an opportunity to reiterate UDC’s welfare and concern for expatriate workers and the community and to highlight its full commitment to their rights and to provide a healthy living environment for them. On a larger scale, it is a showcase for Qatar to both demonstrate and document the achievements made by the country and its national institutions in the field of occupational health and safety.
