Unifying the process of strategic planning in the Municipal System Workshop on SWOT Analysis 2012

As a step to enhance the integration process of the municipal system and develop the services provided to the public, the Department of Municipal Affairs (DMA) organized a workshop about the SWOT Analysis of the Municipal System for the year 2012.
The workshop was attended by many officials in the municipal planning divisions in the DMA, Abu Dhabi City Municipality, Al Ain City Municipality & the Western Region Municipality.
The workshop reviewed priorities mentioned in the strategic plan of the municipal system in its development march to achieve the objectives set by the Government of Abu Dhabi to enhance services offered to citizens of the Emirate.
Discussion is mainly focused on the components of the SWOT analysis, i.e.: internal strength and weaknesses as well as external opportunities and threats. The main four streams of the municipal system SWOT analysis were Stakeholders, Education and growth, operations and technology and finally services.
Mr. Abd Al Aziz Al boloushi, Member of the municipal system strategic team, stressed the importance of SWOT analysis to have an accurate assessment of present situation before setting objectives and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
He added that it also helped to define the key strategic issues that drive those issues to support the municipal system towards more integration and better performance.
It is worth mentioning that, this analysis is the first of its kind in the municipal system and covers the general municipal aims in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and not the aim of a specific municipality.
Mr. Albloushi mentioned that the year 2012 witnessed the launch of a unified strategic map for the next five years in the municipal system, and this workshop is the first step toward achieving the aims of this strategic plan which are to enhance the integration process in the municipal system and develop the services offered to the residents.
