Siemens, a leading technology company, has appointed Jean-Claude Nasr, 52, as its senior executive vice president of the company’s power generation division in the Middle East.

Based in Dubai, UAE, Nasr will be instrumental in supporting the region’s needs for additional power generation capacity and a diversified energy mix, said a statement.

His wealth of experience, spanning more than 20 years in power generation, oil and gas, and energy management will be key to helping the region address foreseen power generation challenges such as affordability, sustainability, efficiency and energy security, it said.

Nasr takes over from Jeff Dunlap, who will move to the US to undertake new responsibilities at Siemens, it added.

He holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Florida Institute of Technology and a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Central Florida.

Dietmar Siersdorfer, CEO of Siemens Middle East and UAE, said: “Nasr brings a diverse regional experience to our Middle East management team.”

“We expect the region to require additional power generation capacity of 267 gigawatts by 2030, representing a 66 per cent increase from 2015,” he said.

“Nasr’s sector and leadership experience will be invaluable in building more affordable, reliable and highly-efficient power plants in the region,” he added.

Nasr began his career in sales with the industry in 1990 and subsequently took on a number of managerial positions, working across the Middle East, Africa, India, Pakistan and Turkey.

Speaking on his appointment, Nasr said: “The Middle East’s growing population increasingly requires reliable and efficient power supply. As the share of renewables in the region’s energy mix is increasing, we expect natural gas to become the No. 1 source for power generation.”

“We are in a strong position to address and support this growth. I’m excited to oversee an excellent team striving to bring greater benefits to our customers in the region through an unmatched portfolio of technologies, supported by digitalisation,” he added.
