SAMENA Telecommunications Council to organize the Telecom Leaders’ Summit 2014 in Dubai

SAMENA Telecommunications Council is set to present The Telecom Leaders’ Summit 2014 on Thursday, June 19th at Armani Hotel Dubai. Hosted by Huawei, the Summit will be held under the theme “The Rise of the Broadband Economy – Shaping Excellence in Cooperation - Government, Telecom Operators, Internet Players”
The agenda for The Telecom Leaders’ Summit 2014 will encompass various sessions in the presence of ministers from the ICT sector of various countries as well as key industry figures from the region, including H.E. Mohamed Al Ghanim – DG TRA, UAE; H.E. Hamadoun Toure – Secretary General, ITU; Mr. Osman Sultan – CEO, du; Mr. Bocar A. Ba – CEO, SAMENA Telecommunications Council; Mr. Shi Yaohong – President, Huawei Middle East. The discussions will span three areas including Role of Government, Digital Governance and Broadband Development Strategy.

At The Telecom Leaders’ Summit 2014, we are looking forward to very dynamic and prolific discussions on issues such as setting investment-friendly policies and regulations by the governments and regulators, diversification of revenue streams by telecom operators, introducing efficient, service delivery platform by technology providers and innovative applications and services by the Internet players,” said Mr. Bocar Ba, CEO, SAMENA Telecommunications Council.

SAMENA Telecommunications Council
The Council was initially led by Dr. Muhammad Ali Al Wohaibi, then-CEO of Oman Telecom. Subsequently, SAMENA Council was chaired by Orange Jordan Telecom Group’s CEO Mr. Mickael Ghossein and then the group CEO of Saudi Telecom Company, Eng. Saud Al Daweesh. Elected in 2011, Sheikh Mohamed Bin Isa Al Khalifa, Group CEO of Batelco served as a chairman of the SAMENA Council’s Board of Directors until September 2013 and was succeeded by Dr. Nasser Marafih, then-Group CEO of Ooredoo. In 2016, the Board of Directors elected Dr. Khaled Biyari, Group CEO of STC, to lead SAMENA Council. On February 27, 2018, in Barcelona, STC was again elected to chair the Board of Directors under the leadership of STC GCEO Eng. Nasser Al Nasser.
