RAK’s Tourism Authority Partners With Airbnb to Promote Responsible Home Sharing

Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority (RAKTDA) and Airbnb have agreed to promote responsible home sharing, in an attempt to boost tourism and diversify the tourism offer in the Ras Al Khaimah, the government office said on Wednesday. 

This agreement follows the recent adoption of a new directive which makes clear that people in the emirate are allowed to share their space as long as they respect basic safety rules and register via a simple online process, the statement said.

In May 2016, Dubai’s Department of Tourism & Commerce Marketing (DTCM) and Airbnb signed a similar agreement to allow homeowners to rent their properties, provided they register with the authority.

As part of the Memorandum of Understanding, San Francisco-based Airbnb and RAKTDA will highlight responsible home sharing by creating a Responsible Hosting Page, informing hosts of the rules and linking to official information and sending regular email reminders to host.

According to the statement, Airbnb will also share with RAKTDA insights and learnings about travel trends that it has gleaned from its customers’ habits, in order to raise awareness about the positive impacts of the Airbnb Community, and to boost tourism.
