Qtel reaches 200,000 facebook fans

Qtel has reached the major milestone of 200,000 Facebook “Likes” this week, and has been named the top local Facebook brand in Qatar by a leading research company.
The twin achievements underline Qtel’s efforts in reaching out to its customers via social media, and also show how many people in Qatar interact via the web for customer service and to learn about the latest promotions and services.
Qtel hit the impressive 200,000 Facebook like mark on 4 February 2013, thanking its fans with a special message on its page. The launch of Qtel’s Mobile Number Portability (MNP) service this week provided the final push that enabled Qtel to reach the target, with hundreds of fans interested in learning how they could switch to Qtel and enjoy great value and incredible networks.
The milestone was reached in the same week that social media analysis company Socialbakers named Qtel as the top Qatari brand on Facebook, because it has the highest-percentage of Qatar-based Facebook fans among the top 10 Facebook pages in the region.
Of Qtel’s more than 200,000 Facebook “Likes”, more than half are based in Qatar. The next-nearest local brand had less than half of its fans coming from local accounts. With nearly 700,000 Facebook users based in Qatar, the social media site is becoming an increasingly important source of information and interaction for one of Qatar’s leading companies.
Facebook users can “Like” the Qtel Facebook page at www.facebook.com/QtelQatar, and can “follow” Qtel on Twitter @QtelQatar.
Qtel keeps its Facebook fans – and more than 30,000 Twitter followers – updated on the latest news, products, services, promotions and video commercials.
Socialbakers also named Qtel as one of the top three socially-devoted Facebook brands in the country, with country-leading figures of 87 percent response rate to questions, and an average response time of only two hours.
Qtel continues to see outstanding growth on its online fan base, adding more than 10,000 new Facebook fans every month, according to Socialbakers.
The telecom has been at the forefront of using social media, for example by launching an online contest on Qatar’s history and culture for Qatar National Day 2012, and the “Snap and Win” camera-phone contest.
