Event will recognize children and young people whose projects and passions benefit their communities and embody strong moral values

Socially conscious and ethically minded young members of Qatar’s community will be recognized for projects that seek to improve the lives of those around them when Qatar Foundation holds its Akhlaquna Day ceremony this week.

The event – which will be screened live on Tuesday, June 14, at 6.30pm – will see the change-making winners of the fifth cycle of Qatar Foundation’s (QF) Akhlaquna Award, and the third cycle of its Akhlaquna Junior award, being announced at the Ceremonial Court in Education City.

Established in 2017, and built on the timeless, universal values exhibited by the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), Akhlaquna empowers and celebrates children and young people who develop projects that embody exemplary moral character, and that encourage others to demonstrate this character in their lives – making the initiative a driver of positive behavioral change in society, as it reinforces the interconnectivity between knowledge and morality.

Projects considered for the Akhlaquna and Akhlaquna Junior awards reflect at least one of four central moral values that are pivotal to building strong communities – mercy, honesty, generosity, and tolerance – with the initiative being an illustration of QF’s commitment to inspiring Qatar’s youth, and all members of society, to be active, aware, compassionate, and thoughtful citizens who improve their communities through their actions and examples.

The three finalists for the latest cycle of the Akhlaquna Award are Nutripedia, an educational platform that aims to enrich scientific content on nutrition in the Arabic language; the Strong Muslim Girls App, which enhances Islamic values among young female Muslims and provides an alternative to mainstream social networking sites; and the QLA Plant Clinic & Research Center, developed by students at Qatar Leadership Academy – part of QF’s Pre-University Education – to encourage people to respect plants and the environment. All projects have been assessed by an expert jury and put to a public vote.

Meanwhile, the Akhlaquna Day ceremony will see students from schools across Qatar receive the Akhlaquna Junior award for being exemplars of good moral character in three age groups. Fatima Saad Al Mohannadi, a 14-year-old Akhlaquna Junior ambassador and a winner in the award’s first cycle who recently wrote a children’s book about autism, will be the event’s Master of Ceremonies, with keynote speakers being Qatari banker and mountaineer Fahad Badar and Khalid Al Shaibei, a Grade 7 student at QF school Qatar Academy Doha, who channels his passion for sport into contributing to the community as a volunteer.

To join in the Akhlaquna Day celebrations on Tuesday, June 14, watch the ceremony unfold in Arabic and English on the Akhlaquna Qatar YouTube channel, with the event also being livestreamed at www.akhlaquna.qa
