The Qatar Youth and Junior Choirs gave a moving performance of Arabic and Western folk songs at Qatar National Library on 1 February. The concert was the first full performance of the two choirs to be hosted at the Library.
The Qatar Youth Choir, founded in 2013, features singers from ages 14 to 18. The choir was awarded first prize in the inaugural Qatar National Music Competition in October 2017 in the Youth Category and recently represented Qatar on the global stage at the World Choral Expo in Portugal. The Qatar Youth Choir is well-known to the Library community, having performed for guests at the inaugural event in April 2018. The Qatar Junior Choir was founded in 2015, and younger boys and girls aged 8 to 13 years receive basic choral training in preparation for joining the Youth Choir.

The rousing performance of the two choirs at the Library concert showed the tremendous choral talent of the young musicians, honed through hard work and practice.

Following the performance, Alena Pyne, founder of Qatar Youth and Qatar Junior Choirs, said: “What an honor to perform on this stage at the Library for members of the public. It was fabulous to have such an understanding and quiet audience present with us.”

Attendee Praveen Kumar said: “It is extremely important for children to know each others’ cultures from the onset and this event did exactly what is needed. I was pleased to hear lots of Arabic songs being played during the concert and was amazed to see the engagement during the event.”
