Qatar National Library (QNL), a member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF), is organising a series of social and educational activities throughout November aimed at engaging members of the community.

The month  of November kicks off with the inaugural Music Movie Night this evening featuring ‘Blue Note-A Story of Modern Jazz', a movie on the famous jazz label established in 1939 showing the rise of modern jazz including interviews and live footage of some of the greatest jazz performers of their time. Participants will be given a brief introduction to the movie and will have a chance to discuss at the end. The movie was chosen from the QNL Online Resources.

Through these events, QNL exemplifies its firm commitment to QF’s mission to unlock human potential and preserve the nation’s history for future generations. By sharing valuable information and cultivating creativity, QNL supports QF’s efforts to foster a progressive society, while preserving Qatar’s and the Arab and Islamic world’s heritage.

This month’s Book Discussion series will feature ‘The Holy Sail’, written by Qatari author Abdulaziz Al Mahmoud. The novel brings to life events from the turn of the 15th century when the Gulf region faced the Portuguese fleet targeting to control the region’s spice trade. The author delivers a riveting account of the medieval world of Lisbon, Cairo, Jeddah and Istanbul with re-occurring themes of love, honour and nobility

Teenagers and families are invited to participate in ‘CreaTeens’, an event focusing on nurturing the imagination and creativity of teenagers through interactive activities including educational and entertaining activities such as electronic games, team activities and crafts and puzzles. Lastly, a training session will take place on selected science databases, covering MarinLit, Merck Index Online, Royal Society of Chemistry, Taylor and Francis, Springer Link and Nature.

Furthermore, this month, QNL will take part in various regional and international events including the International Istanbul Book Fair and the Philippine Librarians Associations Inc (PLAI) National Congress to share the progress of Qatar’s Libraries with an international audience.

Various teams from QNL have recently participated in the Frankfurt Book Fair and the 26th Annual Arab Federation for Libraries and Information (AFLI) Conference that was held in Amman, Jordan.
