Qatar Foundation unveils grafitti art wall

Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF) unveiled its brand-new graffiti wall at Qatar Academy yesterday during an official ceremony attended by Engineer Jassim Telefat, Group Executive Director of Qatar Foundation Capital Projects and Facilities Management.

The wall was created by three local artists, Mubarak Al-Malik, Moza AlKuwari, and Thamer Al Dossari, and, depicting traditional aspects of local life, aims to inspire students, faculty, and community members to work together for a brighter future.  

Mubarak Al-Malik, one of the local artists, explained the importance of the canvas being located in Education City. “Qatar Foundation is a very important place in Qatar, and this is a great opportunity to be able to display our work,” he said. “Graffiti is not a very well-known form of art here, and this is a way to show people what graffiti actually is, that it is not just spray paint on a wall. It is a chance to be able to teach the community about this particular style.”

It took the artists one month, from 5^th November to 5^th December, to complete the mural. The artists were given the freedom to create a piece of art that combined each of their different styles. Some of the highlights include a woman wearing a batoola holding an incense burner and a dhow, Arabic calligraphy, and a prize-winning horse from Al Shaqab.

Over the course of the month, the public were invited to witness the piece of art come to life as it progressed towards completion. A permanent fixture at QF, it now stands as a representation of the Foundation’s mission and vision to foster a creative and progressive society, as well as a cultural landmark.
