Qatar Academy Sidra raises proceeds for Syrian refugees through art

The Qatar Academy Sidra (QA Sidra) Art Department has raised QR10,000 for Syrian refugees from an auction at the school’s second student art exhibition.
The auction comprised artworks created as a group effort from each grade and the proceeds were then donated to Qatar Charity. The latest donation followed the QR 8,000 raised for the 2012 Sri Lankan earthquake victims during the previous school art exhibition.
During the latest exhibition, parents were invited to view their children’s artwork, which included paintings, drawings, sketches, print making, sculptures and digital creations.
Commenting on the success of QA Sidra’s second student art exhibition, Ashley Doucette Pilles, Art teacher at QA Sidra, said: “The students worked very hard on their creations and were delighted to have their parents take the time to view their art projects. We are extremely proud of our students’ accomplishments and the subsequent support and enthusiasm we have received towards art in education.”
The art exhibition also featured an array of fun and exciting family artistic-themed activities that included symmetry challenges, murals, sticker tables, origami making, hand print murals, light tables, sand drawing and iPad art.
QA Sidra opened its doors in September 2012 as part of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development. The school currently caters for pre-kindergarten children up to Grade 8 students. However, every year, the school will incorporate one academic grade level. Upon completion, the school will offer a comprehensive K-12 education.
