BurJuman’s Safe and Sound campaign, the region’s leading and most extensive Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign, encourages UAE residents to take part in the mission of raising awareness on breast cancer by registering for the ‘Pink Walkathon’. With the eighth edition taking place this year, the ‘Pink Walkathon’ has established itself as the most anticipated flagship initiative in the year round Safe and Sound event schedule.

The annual charitable, non-competitive event is organized with the dual objectives of spreading the message that ‘Early Detection Saves Lives’ when it comes to breast cancer whilst simultaneously raising funds to help support the campaign’s outreach and patient support efforts. This October, the overall campaign and the ‘Pink Walkathon’ as the anchor event are supported by the strategic partner Dubai Events and Promotions Establishment (DEPE) as well as the other key partners ADCB, Amber Clinics, Del Monte and UniCare Medical Centre. Masafi will furthermore once again be providing water for participants of the walk.

Pre-walk, fabulous live music outdoors will whip up a buzz and set the mood for a great morning activity with friends and family. Post-walk there will be delicious breakfast offers available to feed the hungry walker’s appetite. Free drumming sessions with Dubai Drums and the Pink Bazaar offering exciting bargains will additionally ensure a fun morning out. A free arts and crafts corner, roaming entertainers and free face painting will also be on hand to ensure that junior walkers have a blast.

As a special musical treat, Safe and Sound has invited Rob Idol, UK’s number one ‘Robbie Williams’ tribute artist who has performed more than 1000 shows to an audience of over 2 million people throughout his career. He was also a part of the 2010 ‘Take That’ tour. Rob Idol will be performing all of Robbie’s chart hits such as ‘Angels’, ‘Let me entertain you’, ‘Eternity’ and many more starting at 7:30am on the walk day.

To add even more excitement to the overall event, registered participants have the chance to win fantastic prizes such as a shopping vouchers from Saks Fifth Avenue, Bebe, Eternal Medspa, Jumeirah Group provided by Serco Middle East as well as three appliance gift hampers from Culin’Or Kitchen Appliances, a gift hamper from Terraillon Health and Fitness and a Pink GHD limited edition hair straightener.

“The Pink Walkathon is a positive representation of one of the key ideas behind Safe & Sound. Breast Cancer doesn’t only affect the patient - It affects entire families as well. With close to 8000 participants of all age groups and of both genders whom have walked the 3.6km distance in 2010, we are once again expecting an amazing event and are very much looking forward to everyone joining us on October 28.” says Sabina Khandwani, Spokesperson of Safe and Sound and Head of PR and Marketing at BurJuman.

Judelyne Al Kabt, a breast cancer survivor and a supporter of the Safe & Sound campaign has been a regular participant for the past 4 years: "I would definitely recommend for everyone to walk this year as it is a fantastic event for a great cause, plus it's a great day to bring your family along with you. After all, your family is your biggest support system."
