Philips brings together cardiology experts to address one of Iraq’s most prevalent chronic diseases

Royal Philips Electronics has recently hosted a week-long educational workshop to support an increased focus on cardiovascular disease in Iraq. Cardiologists, emergency physicians and cardiac surgeons from the country came together for the program at the Philips Customer Education Center (CEC) in Lebanon, one of three in the region, to discuss and share best practices in cardiovascular disease patient care.
Cardiovascular disease is the second leading cause of death in Iraq as smoking and physical inactivity increase the risk of developing the condition in both men and women. In Iraq 59.5% of men and 62.3% of women are at a higher risk of heart disease due to their weight.
Philips, a leader in cardiology solutions is focused on supporting healthcare providers in the Middle East detect, diagnose, treat and manage patients with cardiovascular diseases. During the visit the Philips shared its latest innovations in the detection and treatment of cardiovascular conditions including its latest cardiac intervention tools at the CEC. The CECs in the UAE, KSA and Lebanon form an integral building block of this proposition by providing content to meet local customer needs in Iraq and throughout the region.
“We appreciate that Philips is bringing the latest in healthcare innovation and educational content that’s directly relevant to us in the Middle East. It’s very positive that we can learn about global trends in cardiology and how to apply this learning for our patients in Iraq. I believe this experience will help us to continue improving cardiac health in Iraq now and in the future,” said Dr.Hussein A. Al-Hilli, Ibn Al-Bitar Cardiac Surgery Center Director
“Philips has been a leader in cardiology for many years and we strive to engage with customers to provide solutions that are locally relevant. Improving educational opportunities is also important in Iraq as they rebuild the health system and hospital infrastructure. As such, we will continue to develop our educational offering in the Middle East to deliver relevant solutions for the region to ensure patients receive the best possible care,” said Jens Jakob Gustmann, General Manager, Philips HealthcareNorth Middle East.
