PepsiCo launches the Tomooh scholarship program for the 6th year 2012/2013
Underscoring its ongoing efforts to support education in the Kingdom and across the Arab world, PepsiCo announced the renewal of its agreement with the Jordanian Hashemite Fund for Human Development (JOHUD). By virtue of the agreement, and as part of its ongoing support to the National Goodwill Campaign, PepsiCo will launch the Tomooh Scholarship Program for the sixth year 2012/2013 in partnership with JOHUD, further building on the program’s resounding success in previous years.
PepsiCo provided JOHUD with 7,000 Tomooh application forms which will be distributed among 50 community development centers across the Kingdom. Students accepted in public Jordanian universities and meet the scholarship criteria can apply to the program by filling out the application forms available at the centers.
PepsiCo East Med and Africa HR Director Sufian Al Salman, said, “We are excited to launch the Tomooh Scholarship Program for another consecutive year, presenting students from across the Kingdom with the opportunity to graduate with a university degree. The Tomooh Scholarship Program falls under the Company’s ongoing support to the National Goodwill Campaign and emphasizes its commitment to helping academically gifted students overcome the financial and social challenges that deter them from attaining a university degree. Over the past five years, more than 1,000students studying different majors in public Jordanian universities have benefited from the program. Since its launch in 2007, Tomooh has enabled 400students to graduate, and this year, we are hoping to reach out to over 180students.”
In turn, JOHUD’s Patron Farah Al Daghistani, explained that the program corresponds with the Fund’s goal to positively impact local communities in collaboration with local and international organizations. She highlighted the fund’s genuine interest in observing, understanding and meeting the needs of these communities in order to achieve sustainable development. Al Daghistani thanked PepsiCo for its commitment to utilizing education as a tool to empower communities and for its ongoing efforts in helping the Tomooh Scholarship Program succeed.
Launched by PepsiCo in 2007,Tomooh is a scholarship program aimed at assisting academically gifted students facing financial challenges in the Middle East to pursue higher education. The program is part of PepsiCo International’s one million dollar commitment to the Arab world which has been allocated to assist disadvantaged communities based on individual needs. Tomooh was introduced to Jordan in 2007.
