PepsiCo the global food and beverage company, through its philanthropic arm The PepsiCo Foundation; the Jordan Ice & Aerated Water Company (A Joint Venture between Pepsico Inc. & AlQahtani Holding), and its distributor of Lay’s Chips brand in the Kingdom, Omar Boulos Al-Zumot Company, donated an amount of 200,000 Jordanian Dinar to Tikyet Um Ali’s charity organization (TUA) to support the most food insecure populations impacted by the COVID-19 epidemic in Jordan. This donation aims to ensure the continuation of TUA’s operations to scale meal distribution to less fortunate families in the Kingdom. It will also support the humanitarian emergency cases benefiting from the organization’s programs in light of the current conditions the world is witnessing during the quarantine and curfews due to the epidemic.

This initiative underlines the efficient and positive role that PepsiCo and AlQahtani Holding are playing in the Kingdom in the current challenging circumstances and supports the leadership and efforts of the government. The donation is an extension of the strategic partnership that the company and TUA have shared over the past years.

As one of the leading companies in the food and beverage sector, PepsiCo is working closely with all government sectors to help stabilize food and beverage supply operations and help meet consumers’ needs with products available in the market.

Commenting on the event, Aamer Sheikh, President & General Manager at PepsiCo Middle East, North Africa, and Pakistan, stated, “Tikyet Um Ali plays an important role in the Jordanian society to alleviate the current pressures of limited access to vital essentials thousands of Jordanian families are facing. We are proud of our ability to support their efforts and work side by side with civil society organizations and the Jordanian government to help Jordan overcome devastating impacts of COVID-19 on communities. Today there is a clear vision from the Hashemite leadership and the government in the Kingdom to minimize the negative impact caused by this epidemic on the country and society. We believe that every company has a role to play in their respective fields to ensure the health and safety of Jordanian citizens."

The Director General of Tikyet Um Ali, Samer Balkar, expressed his gratitude to PepsiCo, saying; “Tikyet Um Ali believes in the importance of private sector partnership, and we greatly appreciate the contribution of PepsiCo and its partners and distributors. We have witnessed PepsiCo’s rapid response to the challenges faced by our organization in sustaining our programs in light of the current conditions. We are facing challenges in delivering food supplies to 30 thousand families each month in all governorates of the Kingdom due to the Coronavirus epidemic. Social responsibility has always been the mainstay of any society and one of the strategic priorities for TUA in order to achieve its vision of reaching a hunger-free Jordan."

Balkar continued, "This support is an effective and vital contribution, especially in times of crisis, particularly since Tkiyet Um Ali is currently delivering sustainable food support to underprivileged families in the Kingdom, including humanitarian and emergency situations. We urge all companies to come together and help us in our journey to deliver food to families at a time when it is the most needed."

Globally, PepsiCo is committing more than $45 million to people and communities around the world affected by this devastating virus, providing vital local humanitarian support and distributing more than 50 million nutritious meals worldwide.

Background Information

Pepsi Cola International

In 1965, Donald Kendall, the CEO of Pepsi-Cola, and Herman Lay, the CEO of Frito-Lay, recognized what they called “a marriage made in heaven,” a single company delivering perfectly-salty snacks served alongside the best cola on earth. Their vision led to what quickly became one of the world's leading food and beverage companies: PepsiCo.

For more than 50 years, as tastes, trends and lifestyles have changed, PepsiCo has evolved with them. Our willingness to adapt and grow has transformed our snack and soda company into a collection of global brands including Pepsi and Quaker, Gatorade and Tropicana, Frito-Lay and beyond. Today, PepsiCo is one of the world’s most-respected companies with products sold in more than 200 countries and territories and 22 brands that generate more than $1 billion each in estimated annual retail sales.
