Multiple award-winning Iranian drama A Separation: Nader and Simin will screen for free to select audiences at 7pm tomorrow (Friday, June 1) at Dubai’s Knowledge Village Conference Centre, presented by Dubai-based Documentary Voices and supported by the Dubai International Film Festival.

The film, directed by Asghar Farhadi, won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film earlier this year, the first Iranian film ever to win the Oscar. Its other accolades include the top prizes at the Berlin International Film Festival for the film and its lead actors, in addition to multiple awards from festivals and competitions from Sydney to South Africa and New York to India.

Set in modern-day Iran, the film is the story of an Iranian middle-class husband and wife: She wants to leave Iran with her husband and daughter and threatens divorce when her husband refuses to do so. He, meanwhile, refuses to leave his father, an Alzheimer’s patient. What follows is not only a schism between the family, but added complications from the help hired to care for the ailing grandfather.

The film, which stars Leila Hatami, Peyman Moaadi, Shahab Hosseini, Sareh Bayat and Sarina Farhadi, will be preceded by a reception and conclude with a special 10-minute behind the scenes session and a Q&A with cast and crew members. Bayat and executive producer Negar Eskandarfar will answer questions.

Attendance to the film and pre- and post-event are by invitation only and are available through Documentary Voices or Bong Events on (056) 175 1010 or (056) 6454 622.
