As part of the seventh wave of graduates, Ooredoo awarded the team responsible for the App ‘Geo-Journey’ after being selected from of the Springboard programme’s top three. The winning group created a mobile app which promotes “geological” tourism. Users will be able to allocate and visit mountains, caves, wadis and the beautiful sand dunes in Oman. As well as sight-seeing, the app functions as a platform for adventure seekers; with users able to contact travel agencies to organise trips, as well as view the geological tourism guide by the Ministry of Tourism. The team was successful in building a digital reference to the Sultanate’s most exciting destinations.

Sara Al Abri, Team Leader of ‘Geo-Journey’, said, “I am very grateful for the opportunity and the extended support given to us by Ooredoo during the development phases of our project. We built the app while keeping Oman’s heritage in mind; by including elaborate maps showcasing appealing locations to be explored, as well as enabling users to organise their own adventures easily. The team and I were determined to create a platform that facilitates key services through our app, which will allow domestic and international tourists to keep exploring this beautiful country”.

Available to download for free from both the Apple store and Google Play, the app can be located under the name: ‘GeoJourney’. Both online and offline, users can access the maps in the app to find geological sites to visit across the Sultanate. Moreover, the app creators have included an exclusive tab titled: ‘MyTrip’, where users can access geological associations’ websites, contact tourism agencies and view Oman’s geological tourism guide.

The Springboard programme was created in partnership with the Ministry of Tourism and the British Council, with the belief that everyone has untapped potential which can be developed for the fulfilment of the individual, their employer and local communities. To date, Springboard has been introduced to over 252,287 women in over 46 countries, with 408 licensed trainers globally, empowering them to harness their talents and live healthier, happier and more productive lives.
