Oman oil company joins outward bound Oman team to coach young talent on real life experiences

Inspiring young people to explore their full potential through outdoor adventure, Oman Oil Company (OOC) is supporting the 2014 Outward Bound Oman Challenge ‘Tahaddi Oman’ for the second consecutive year. OOC joined the efforts of Outward Bound Oman team of experts in engaging young people in a number of activities to impart key life skills and lessons.
The four-day programme was held in Oman’s wilderness environment of Al Jabal Al Akhdar with participation of 17 students from four schools in Wilayat Diba. The adventure seekers came together in an outdoor learning and challenging experience to build confidence and succeed within and beyond the school environment.
“The ‘Tahaddi Oman’ initiative is a great opportunity for us to share work and life stories, engage and mentor students towards success in an educational experiential outdoor experience. We believe in the value this expedition brings to the young generation through cultivating resilience, instilling leadership qualities and creating lifetime friendships. Both students and mentors learned how to face challenges, work as a team, prompting a profound impact on their lives. This is an inspirational trek of self-discovery and construction of knowledge,” said Al Mutasim Al Sariri, Head of Corporate Sustainability Department of OOC.
Participants were required to be physically fit as the Challenge involved hiking for several hours a day, carrying personal belongings and camping at night. Recent research in the UK revealed 80% of teachers confirmed their Outward Bound experience had significantly improved their students overall performance including development of communication skills, improvement in ability to work together as a team and increase in self-confidence.
