OCTAL to showcase Oman’s research and development prowess at Europe’s leading packaging trade fair

OCTAL, the world’s leading clear rigid packaging material supplier, will showcase Oman’s research and development prowess at the Interpack trade fair, in Düsseldorf, Germany, from 8-14 May 2014. OCTAL’s unique-to-the-world patented DPET sheet promotes Oman’s research and development capacity to meet global demands of the rapidly-expanding packaging industry in high volume applications for food and consumer products.
OCTAL’s custom-built two-level exhibition area will cover 360 square meters and will be supported by a delegation of 18 staff from the company’s Oman and worldwide operations to showcase the company’s capabilities with large brands from around the world. OCTAL has been a major exhibitor at Interpack, Europe’s largest processing and packaging trade fair, since 2008.
George Freiji, Director – Corporate Development of OCTAL, said, “OCTAL is targeting further expansion in the convenience foods sector and consumer goods industry with its high performance DPET™ sheet. At Interpack, we will be exhibiting our cutting edge products and focus on our capabilities in Form Fill Seal (FFS) markets especially in packaging meat and cheese, poultry, multipack and single serve yogurt cups as well as water cups where our DPET™ sheet has been successfully applied to the Middle East and North African market.”
“Oman is an ideal strategic location that allows us to meet the needs of customers around the world from our base in Salalah in the Sultanate of Oman, located at the trade junction between Asia and Europe. We enjoy access to the main shipping routes and can consistently serve customers worldwide with large orders within 14-18 days. OCTAL is the world’s largest producer of PET sheet and resin on a single site and the world’s leading clear rigid packing material supplier, producing nearly 1 million metric tons of bottle grade PET per year. Our technology and innovation driven DPET™ enables customers to present fresh foods, beverages, pharmaceuticals, electronics and other consumer goods, using the enhanced strength and visual appeal of PET,” added Freiji.
OCTAL is also set to launch a European customer support and distribution hub in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, home to the world’s third largest port, to create further advantages for increasing the company’s presence in European markets.
OCTAL has developed its DPET™ sheet to be both cost and energy-efficient, offering absolute traceability that eliminates defects and resin contamination. As verified by independent researchers Intertek Expert Services, OCTAL’s DPET™ sheet uses 65% less grid electricity per kilogram when compared to other polymers, translating to a 25% lower carbon footprint than traditionally-produced APET.
Since commencing operations six years ago, OCTAL’s client portfolio has continued to grow and the company now exports to more than 75 countries around the world. OCTAL’s PET products provide clear rigid packaging solutions to some of the biggest and most respected international as well as local brands. Recently OCTAL announced that total sales have surpassed US$ 3 billion and operations have reached a new milestone, recording its highest quarter production volume of PET in Q1, 2014.
