This morning, Joni Paiva, Divisional Vice President for Africa, Middle East, India and Oceania (AMIO) at Nissan Motor Corporation marked a significant moment for the company when he opened Expo 2020 Dubai’s Sustainability portal to thousands of visitors at Expo’s daily Gate Opening Ceremony, dedicated to key partners and personalities.

The ceremony, attended by members of the Nissan and Expo 2020 Dubai team, alongside Thierry Sabbagh, Managing Director at Nissan Middle East was a befitting celebration of Nissan’s sustainability ambitions, reaffirming the shared vision of Nissan and Expo 2020 Dubai to create a more sustainable future. It was also a demonstration of Nissan’s alignment of its carbon neutrality ambitions with the UAE’s 2050 Net Zero Strategic Initiative.

Nissan has always been a company driven by the accomplishments of its employees and this was evident at the gate opening, as more than 30 Nissan employees who have been instrumental in bringing Nissan’s Expo participation to life took part in the ceremony and were lauded for their efforts.

The Expo entry gates, designed by the famous London-based architect, Asif Khan, are the first amazing reception point for millions of visitors to Expo 2020 Dubai. As the Official Automotive Partner of Expo 2020 Dubai, Nissan had the honor to perform this memorable gesture.

Speaking on the occasion, Paiva said: “It is a great honor for Nissan to be part of this historic moment. The opening of the gates today reflects Nissan’s global commitment to sustainability. I am extremely proud and inspired to share this moment with our team who worked tirelessly to make our partnership with Expo a fruitful and meaningful one and are committed to paving the way to the future of mobility.”

At Expo 2020 Dubai, Nissan is taking part in several panel discussions and fire-side chats throughout the six-month show, engaging on various topics with global, regional, and local stakeholders to accelerate the shift towards a more sustainable future.
