du’s employees demonstrated their charitable nature and gave generously to a donation drive, established by the telecommunications company to aid Syrian refugees. The drive was held in support of ‘They Called for Help… We Responded’, a Red Crescent campaign, with more than AED 720,000 and donated items raised for the cause. du also supported the campaign with a push through its various Social Media channels.

Hala Badri, Executive Vice President, Brand and Communications, du, presented the donation to Mohammed Al Zaroni, Manager of the UAE Red Crescent’s Dubai branch.

“The unfortunate plight of refugees in Syria is being further compounded by the inhospitable weather conditions. During their hour of need they need to know that the world has not forgotten them, and these donations, gathered so generously by the employees at du, will go a long way to making their ordeal more bearable than it is at present,” said Mohammed Al Zaroni.

“As a socially-conscious company, we are concerned for the welfare of people not only in the UAE, but wherever our reach may extend to make a difference. Our colleagues have demonstrated their philanthropic spirit by supporting causes in the past, and they have given just as generously to aid Syria’s refugees at the time when they need it most,” said Hala Badri, Executive Vice President, Brand and Communications, du. “We can only hope that our contributions will make a significant difference to the unfortunate situation that these people find themselves in, and that we can inspire others to give to the cause for their benefit.”

Employees were offered three ways in which to contribute to the cause. An internal donation campaign allowed them to donate through du’s intranet; dedicated SMS short codes allowed for easy SMS-based donations, and donation boxes were set up in three du office locations for employees to donate items such as sleeping bags, blankets and warm clothes.
