Members of Capital Club benefit from exclusive interactive session

Members and guests of the Capital Club, Bahrain’s premier private business club, recently had the unique opportunity to participate in an exclusive interactive session on ‘India and the Gulf – bridging the Gulf’ with Dr Sanjaya Baru, Consulting Senior Fellow for Geo-Economics and Strategy Expertise: South Asia, Economics.
Moderated by Mr. Abdulnabi Al Sho’ala, Chairman of the Bahrain India Society, the discussion focused on further solidifying the long standing bi-lateral relations between India and Bahrain.
Being one of India’s most respected and influential commentators on political and economic issues, Dr Baru highlighted the past, present and the future significance of India-GCC bilateral trade. In addition, he mentioned that the GCC is India’s second largest trading partner, after the United States.
Dr Baru was the Official Spokesman and Media Advisor to the Prime Minister of India from 2004 to 2008. Prior to his official appointment, he was the Chief Editor of The Financial Express. He has also been the Associate Editor of The Economic Times and The Times of India, and has been a Professor at the Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations in New Delhi, and a Member of India's National Security Advisory Board in the Prime Minister's Office.
He is the author of Strategic Consequences of India's Economic Performance, which was launched in the UK at the International Institute of Strategic Studies (IISS) Asia in April 2007, and The Political Economy of Indian Sugar (1990). In addition, he has published several books on economic and strategic policies in India and abroad.
