Over 350 radiologists, technologists and other allied health professionals from across Qatar, and the region, recently gathered in Doha for a three-day intensive MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) course covering abdominal and pelvic imaging. Organized by Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) in collaboration with the Canadian-based University Health Network and Massachusetts General Hospital, the course featured internationally renowned speakers from Harvard University and the University of Toronto.

The intensive course included sessions focused on the optimization of MRI protocols, updated MRI applications for hepatobiliary diseases (associated with the liver and biliary system), pancreatic diseases, gastro-intestinal, kidney, prostate, adrenal and gynecological disorders, as well as case-based reporting and panel discussions.

Dr. Ahmed Omar, Chairman of Clinical Imaging and Chairperson of the Qatar Clinical Abdominal MRI Course (QCAM) 2016, highlighted the importance of such meetings to HMC professionals and their impact on the service quality provided by the clinical imaging department.

Dr. Adham Darweesh, Senior Consultant and Head of the Body Imaging Section at Hamad General Hospital, and QCAM Course Director, emphasized the importance of the course. He said such events are a fundamental component of ensuring HMC’s clinical imaging professionals remain up-to-date with the latest international standards in MRI practice.

“This intensive program is designed to enhance and strengthen skills in MRI abdominal imaging and intervention. It is about helping clinical imaging professionals provide the best possible patient care and improving the overall health of Qatar’s population through state-of-the-art medical imaging services and innovative solutions,” Dr. Darweesh said.

This is the second time HMC has held the QCAM course, with the inaugural event taking place in May 2015. In addition to HMC staff, representatives from the Primary Health Care Corporation and the private healthcare sector, as well as GCC medical centers, also participated in the course.
