Kohler delivers world-class water conservation to Middle East

Kohler’s broad environmental efforts have gained respect from all corners of the conservation movement, most recently from readers of the U.S. based Green Builder Magazine, who voted Kohler Greenest Plumbing Products Manufacturer in the magazine’s 2012 Readers Choice Awards. The award, which recognizes pioneering companies that are leading the industry in sustainable thinking, is presented in the magazine’s February 2012 issue.

Given the company’s history as a plumbing pioneer, Kohler has long been a trailblazer in the field of water conservation, and its many innovations and programs have been widely lauded and imitated.

Mohamed Nada, Regional Marketing Manager at Kohler Co. says: “The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has awarded the company with its esteemed WaterSense Excellence Award every year it has been given, and today Kohler has more WaterSense-labeled products than any other plumbing manufacturer, all available to regional homeowners and business through our distributors. When utilised, these products deliver a huge water savings in househoulds and commercial spaces. This is important for a region where water is becoming an increasingly scarce resource. Kohler water saving products also have the added benefit of lowering household bills, which is a win-win for both the environment and your wallet.”

In addition to its water preservation efforts, pains have been taken across the company’s entire manufacturing processes to reuse and recycle wherever possible. For example, the cull pottery waste material from its Kohler, Wis. pottery is now used in area road construction, landscaping, drainage systems, as well as incorporated into products made by the Wausau Tile company in Wisconsin, instead of ending up in landfills.

Also, Kohler enameled cast iron - made in Kohler, Wis.  and available across the Kohler Middle East distributor network - is made from at least 80% recycled materials. This cast iron is used to produce bath tubs, kitchen sinks, lavatories and shower receptors.

The company also continues to educate itself.  An internal LEED Green Associate training program at Kohler prepares associates for the LEED Green Associate exam, and over 100 of Kohler’s associates – engineers, marketing personnel, designers, sales representatives have taken the Kohler-developed and -led course.

Throughout all of its global locations, the company is constantly working to minimize its environmental impact, and Kohler has ambitiously set its sights on on reducing its carbon footprint, with offsets, to net zero by the year 2035.
