Khalifa University organizes workshop with Korean Nuclear Society

Khalifa University hosted today a workshop with the Korean Nuclear Society (KNS) that was designed to promote an academic exchange on technical topics and on the future of nuclear energy.

The workshop aims to enhance cooperation between the UAE and Korea in the peaceful use of nuclear energy.

“We are pleased to have hosted this exciting workshop,” says Dr. Tod Laursen, President of Khalifa University. “The development of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes is an issue at the very heart of the future of the UAE, and Khalifa University is responsible for educating and preparing the future leaders of this industry. Partnerships with organizations like the Korean Nuclear Society contribute to our student’s education and offer them excellent opportunities for work experience, which, in turn, helps KU and our students achieve the goals set forth in Abu Dhabi’s 2030 Plan.”

The workshop addressed the history of nuclear energy in Korea, as well as, the future of nuclear education and research in the UAE. In addition, the workshop looked at safety issues and the importance of environmental radiation monitoring, safety systems and safeguards.

Dr. Laursen added “Khalifa University’s M.Sc in Nuclear Energy and our Gulf Nuclear Energy Infrastructure Institute (GENII) are designed to move beyond topical training courses to provide a more broadly based, comprehensive forum through which regional nuclear professionals can assess a variety of situations and have long-term impacts within nuclear energy programs. Workshops like this one provide professionals with the forums to assess these situations and to meet with peers from around the world.”

The workshop took place at Khalifa University’s Abu Dhabi Campus and was led by Khalifa University professors and guests from the Korean Nuclear Society.
