Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) and the Community College of Qatar (CCQ) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that will see increased healthcare education and career opportunities for Qatari nationals here in Qatar.

The signing ceremony marked the beginning of a partnership between the two organizations to collaborate on the design, development and implementation of an associate applied science degree program in health information management (HIM).

HMC’s Managing Director, Hanan Al Kuwari, Phd, spoke during the signing ceremony and acknowledged the important contribution CCQ is making to develop the country’s knowledge economy.

She expressed optimism about the future of the collaboration, saying it was an important investment toward ensuring sufficient capacity to meet the complex, highly specialized healthcare needs of Qatar’s population through the pursuit of home-grown healthcare expertise.

“We are fully committed to this joint venture, where knowledge and experience are shared for the benefit of our patients. HMC and CCQ are working together to provide opportunity for Qatari nationals to learn, develop and work within the healthcare sector and ultimately to contribute to providing world-class quality patient care, in a safe and healing environment,” said Al Kuwari.

“This is the beginning of a long-term commitment between HMC and CCQ. Health information management students who graduate from CCQ will be welcomed into an environment that will continue to promote high quality education for them. We are keen to develop a sustainable high quality national workforce to honor HMC’s commitment of providing the safest, most effective and compassionate care to patients,” Al Kuwari added.

President of CCQ, Professor Ibrahim Saleh Al Naimi stated on the occasion: “CCQs new degree program in health information management will enhance the ways in which patients, doctors and insurance companies are able to communicate with one another and build upon the advances already made in Qatar’s healthcare system.”

Professor Naimi commended the joint efforts of HMC and CCQ adding that “our shared goal is to provide all public health sectors with highly skilled medical staff that can provide accurate and reliable patient data.

“We are proud to announce that 30 students are currently enrolled in the program, and we expect to admit 30 more students this coming September 2014,” he noted.

A number of notable guests and senior HMC and CCQ management staff as well as representatives from other healthcare organizations attended the signing ceremony.
