Her Highness Sheikha Manal bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum extends support to Friends of Cancer Patients

Her Highness Sheikha Manal bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Women Establishment, wife of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, UAE, recently extended her royal patronage to a Charity Bazaar event organised by Friends of Cancer Patients (FOCP).
The Charity Bazaar will run from Monday 27th, February 2012 until Wednesday, 29th February, 2012 at Dubai Ladies Club, a member of Dubai Women Establishment. The bazaar will be open to ladies and gentlemen from 10am until 9pm daily; entry is complimentary to all guests. This year’s participating vendors are well known charities from Lebanon, who will be showcasing a unique of handmade products. All of them were established and endorsed by elite members of the Lebanese Female Community and play a huge role in empowering and supporting women, widows, children and families by making them productive members of society through teaching them arts and crafts to support themselves. Each charity will contribute 20 percent of the bazaar sales to support FOCP.
On this occasion, Her Highness Sheikha Manal praised the efforts of Friends of Cancer Patients for providing therapeutic and training programs for poor patients, and pledged her continued support for the initiatives with noble goals, that calls for the strengthening of humanitarian work and establishing a culture of volunteerism to spread awareness about various social and charitable issues. She also welcomed the participants who came from different countries wherein reflecting the spirit of social cohesion among all members of society from across the world.
Her Highness Sheikha Manal’s undertaking of this special cause is borne from her firm belief that all forms of humanitarian work are of the highest importance as they form the building blocks of a developing and thriving community. Last October she also sponsored a charity auction hosted by Ralph Lauren to support the "The Pink Caravan" initiative to finance a FOCP Mobile MRI Van which will provide women in the UAE with free mammogram and biopsy services. Moreover, Sheikha Manal is also the Honorary Ambassador for the "The Pink Caravan" initiative in supporting breast cancer patients in recognition of her efforts and dedication in supporting women's issues – be it healthcare, child care or in the arts – and also for the attention that she pays to the various activities aimed at the advancement of women locally, regionally and internationally.

Dubai Women Establishment
The Dubai Women Establishment (DWE) was formed in 2006 under law no. (24) by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum – The UAE Vice President and Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai. DWE is headed by Her Highness Sheikha Manal Bint Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum – Wife of HH Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan – UAE Minister of Presidential Affairs. As a statutory body of Dubai Government and as per its founding decree, the Establishment aims to encourage and facilitate the participation of Emirati women in the workforce and society.
Mandate includes extensive research to identify and quantify status of women in the workforce of Dubai, as well as initiatives towards women’s further development opportunities. Awareness and policies that are conducive to women in the workforce will be recommended to Dubai Government as solutions to enable women to play a greater role within the UAE and on global scale.
The term participation includes acknowledgment of women in arts, women in sports, women in leadership professionally in their field as well as of the societal arena such as act of philanthropic, humanitarian and politics.
