GE Volunteers, the internal organisation of GE that promotes the spirit of volunteerism worldwide, joined hands with UAE-based non-profit Adopt-a-Camp (AAC) to raise funds and assemble ‘care packages,’ an initiative aimed at enhancing the lives of  laborers in the UAE. The drive aimed to provide workers with boxes filled with essential items, underscoring the values of compassion and giving during the Holy Month of Ramadan.

During the course of the initiative, more than 50 GE Volunteers donated nearly US$2,500 to contribute to more than 1,100 ‘care packages.’ In addition, 24 GE Volunteers members contributed over 50 hours towards the packing, assembling, and delivery of approximately 5000 care packages across the UAE.

Containing the essentials that laborers require during the Holy Month of Ramadan, the ‘care packages’ are comprised of 32 items including new mattresses, bed sheets, cloth, toiletries, detergents, disinfectants, energy food items, and much-needed prickly heat powder. The powder, purchased with the donations from GE Volunteers, provides relief by protecting against heat rash.

Adopt-a-Camp has been working with labor camps for seven years and currently has 43 camps and over 32,200 men under its wing. With each volunteering drive, AAC has made a real difference in the lives of thousands of laborers, their families and communities.

GE coordinates volunteer efforts company-wide by keeping a close eye on societal needs and inviting all employees to build stronger communities where the company serves in. GE’s employees volunteer over one million hours of community service every year.
