FedEx Team members support local communities during third annual FedEx Cares week

Team members across FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. and the world’s largest express transportation company, participated in the third annual FedEx Cares program that was organized in the United Arab Emirates, and the rest of the Middle East, Indian Subcontinent and Africa (MEIA) region. FedEx Cares is an annual global volunteering initiative, where FedEx team members and their families donate their personal time and effort in giving back to their local communities.

This year, the program was held from October 1 – 15 in the UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait and India. Together, 1,865 FedEx team members participated in various activities, contributing over 3,680 hours of volunteer work.

“The FedEx Cares program gives our team members the opportunity to make a difference in our societies by volunteering in a range of locally organized initiatives,” said David Ross - senior vice president of FedEx Express Middle East, Indian Subcontinent and Africa Operations. “This event is symbolic of the year round commitment of our team members and is just one of the many ways we join together to give back to the communities we have a presence in.”

In the UAE, FedEx volunteers supported organizations such as the Dubai Blood Donation Center, Abu Dhabi Blood Bank of Shaikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC), Emirates Environmental Group and the Red Crescent through local activities, including:

Tree planting in schools to enhance their green environment.

Blood donations for Thalassemia and Leukemia patients, as well as road accident victims.

Donation of FedEx Cares bags containing toys, clothes and books to youth and children in need.

FedEx Cares in MEIA complements the volunteer activities taking place globally. Around the world, FedEx Cares Week is now in its ninth year. In addition to volunteering thousands of hours each year, FedEx and its team members donated more than $14 million to several non-profit organizations in 2012. In recognition of the 40^th anniversary of FedEx, team members worldwide are honoring the long-standing tradition of service by organizing and volunteering over 40,000 hours in support of their favorite organizations.
