Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates and the winner of the accolade ‘World’s Leading Airline’ at the World Travel Awards in both 2009 and 2010, has been named as official airline sponsor of a talent competition at Doha’s prestigious Sheraton Doha Resort & Convention Hotel in November.

The Karaoke event, ‘Sheraton’s Got Talent’, begins at 6pm on November 24 in the Al Majlis Auditorium at the landmark hotel in West Bay. The evening’s proceeds will be donated to the global children’s charity UNICEF. As sponsor of the event, Etihad has donated a pair of fantastic prizes for the overall winner and runner-up.

Ahmed Al Halyan, Qatar Country Manager for Etihad Airways, commented, “The upcoming event comes on the back of the success of last year’s event where funds were sent to UNICEF to assist the charity’s Schools For Africa project in South Africa. Etihad was approached to sponsor the event this year and we were keen to get involved in such a good cause.

“Etihad has a strong ethos of Corporate Social Responsibility in its business plan and, this year, the night’s proceeds will again be channelled through UNICEF as part of its programme to raise much-needed funds for vital equipment and educational materials for 58 schools in Romania and Pakistan. We’re pleased to partner with Starwood and Sheraton for this worthy cause.”

Steven Kalczynski, General Manager of the Sheraton Doha also commented, “We certainly appreciate this unique partnership between Etithad and the Sheraton Doha. UNICEF and Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide and their guests to date have raised over US$22 million to support life-saving programs for children throughout the world.”

If you’d like to take part in the Karaoke event you need to be an expatriate residing in Doha and aged over 21. A maximum of 35 entrants will take to the stage to sing a track of their choice with Karaoke backing and the five best entries will win a prize. The first and second prizes, generously donated by Etihad, are quite spectacular.

The overall winner will receive a round-trip flight with Etihad Airways to any of the 86 destinations worldwide served by the airline. In addition, Starwood will provide a weekend stay for two people at the Sheraton Jumeirah Beach Resort and Towers in Dubai. The second prize winner will receive a flight with Etihad Airways from Doha to Abu Dhabi and back and, while in the capital of the UAE, a weekend stay for two people at the Sheraton Abu Dhabi Hotel and Resort. Third, fourth and fifth places will also win great prizes.

Al Halyan added, “Etihad has provided a pair of fantastic prizes for the evening’s best singers. We hope that an extraordinary amount of money will be raised for the UNICEF cause.”
