Etihad Airways has reached 100,000 fans on its Facebook page, a key part of its rapidly expanding social media strategy. The rapid growth of fans has been supported by the recently launched new television commercial.

In celebration, the UAE flag carrier has developed a special YouTube ‘Thank you’ video featuring its staff from different parts of the business thanking fans for supporting the airline.

Peter Baumgartner, Chief Commercial Officer at Etihad Airways, said: “We are a people business, an award winning airline, and we are delighted to have organically reached this social media milestone of 100,000 Facebook fans. Social media has become an important part of our outreach efforts and Facebook, in particular, has allowed us to connect with our current and future guests on such a wonderful and personal level to win them as ‘fans’ of our brand.”

Etihad Airways has a strong, integrated presence on popular social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. The airline continues to expand its social media presence and has plans to launch an official brand account on Google Plus and develop an Arabic Facebook page. These new endeavors are all part of an on-going effort from Etihad Airways to improve the experience of fans of the airline.

The airline is currently running a competition on Facebook linked to the recently launched ‘Why’ global television commercial and digital campaign, which will see five lucky Etihad Airways Facebook fans win double tickets to any Etihad Airways destination.

Lasting two months, all fans of the social networking platform have to do to be in with a chance of winning the prize, is to say why they have switched, or what aspects of travel are important to them in the ‘Why? Competition’ tab on Etihad Airways' Facebook page.
