The award, which recognizes the company’s contributions to the development of the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) sector in Africa, was accepted by Isil Yalcin, President, Ericsson North East Africa.
The annual CommsMEA Awards recognize organizations that have helped turn the communications sector in the Middle East and Africa into one of the most dynamic and vibrant in the world. This year marks Ericsson’s third consecutive win of the African Vendor of the Year award.
“Our industry has an indisputable effect on the way our world is growing and changing for the better, as connectivity drives productivity and empowers communities by providing them with access to knowledge that may have previously been out of reach. We are proudly associated with several partners in Africa to use technology for good across the continent, harnessing the transformative power of our fast-moving industry to enable growth, economic development, and personal empowerment in the transition towards the Networked Society,” said Rafiah Ibrahim, President, Ericsson Middle East Region.
Ericsson has a long history in the region, having installed its first telephone exchange in Egypt in 1897, connecting Cairo to Alexandria. The company drives innovation across the communications spectrum. Through an annual investment of USD $5 billion in research and development, Ericsson has been at the forefront of some of mobile technology’s most significant advancements.
