Empower Connects 40 Buildings With District Cooling Systems in the First Half of the Year 2018

Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower), the world’s largest district cooling services provider, announced the connecting its district cooling services to 40 buildings in the first half of the year, 2018. Total connected load during this period is more than 52,000 Refrigeration Tonnes (RT).

Empower also announced that it has awarded the contractors and suppliers with 25 contracts on new projects in different areas in Dubai, mainly to build new district cooling plants and networks. This reflects Empower's efforts and commitment to deliver highly efficient district cooling services, according to the highest international standards and best practices.

“Our statistics of projects, agreements and contracts in Q1 of 2018 reflect the awareness of owners and developers of the importance of energy-saving and environmentally friendly district cooling systems. District cooling systems have become an integral part of the planning and design of modern buildings in Dubai,” said Ahmad Bin Shafar, CEO of Empower.

Empower started operations in 2014 by supplying two buildings with district cooling services, and the number of buildings supplied reached 1,000 by the end of 2017. Empower currently operates 73 district cooling plants across Dubai.

The advanced technologies and systems used by Empower’s Command Control Centre provide real time access to information; define supply and consumption patterns in each building unit through a click of a button, in line with Dubai Government’s vision of making Dubai a unique smart city in the world. The centre gives insights into the consumption patterns of apartments, offices, and commercial establishments as well as their needs from the district cooling grid accurately. This helps to deploy the resources effectively on the plants and networks in general and in specific plant networks at peak times during summer periods. It also assists to plan preventive maintenance schedule during winter months more effectively.

Empower currently operates over 1.34 Million RT, providing environmentally responsible district cooling services to large-scale real estate developments, such as Jumeirah Group, Jumeirah Beach Residence, Dubai International Financial Centre, Business Bay, Dubai Healthcare City, Jumeirah Lake Towers, Palm Jumeirah, Discovery Gardens, Ibn Battuta Mall, Dubai Design District and International Media Production Zone, among others.
