Emirates Gas honours local authorities for supporting ‘Safe Cylinder, Safe House’ campaign

Emirates Gas, EMGAS, a subsidiary of Emirates National Oil Company, ENOC, concluded its ‘Safe Cylinder, Safe House’ public safety awareness campaign at a ceremony today by honouring representatives of various governmental authorities that had partnered in the initiative.
The campaign, which was a part of a series of initiatives highlighting EMGAS’ Corporate Social Responsibility, was undertaken in collaboration with Dubai Municipality and Dubai Civil Defence. It was rolled out in two phases from the Holy Month of Ramadan in 2011 and lasted for over a year.
Key representatives from Dubai Municipality and Dubai Civil Defence, who have been instrumental in the success of the campaign, were honoured at the event and presented with mementoes for their unwavering support to the project. In addition, eight households were awarded with vouchers for free refills of LPG domestic cylinders. They were chosen based on their knowledge on implementing the best practices in safe handling of LPG cylinders.
Zaid Al Qufaidi, ENOC’s Managing Director – Marketing said: “The ‘Safe Cylinder, Safe House’ campaign is central to our commitment to the society to promote safe practices and to strengthen awareness on handling gas cylinders safely. The campaign was very favourably received by the entire cross-section of the society and the feedback we received is extremely encouraging. We thank our partners, Dubai Municipality and Dubai Civil Defence, for playing a key role in driving the success of this campaign. ENOC and its subsidiaries will continue to adhere to its commitment to promoting best practices and upholding the highest safety standards at all times.”
Hesham Ali Mustafa, Senior Director – ENOC Gas Marketing and General Manager – Emirates Gas LLC said: “The campaign, which is aimed at improving safety and quality of life, marks our commitment to the highest levels of security for our customers. Continuous education and safety awareness is imperative in maintaining safety across all facets. EMGAS remains to seek opportunities to make a positive transformation that will create a safe environment.”
Over the course of the campaign, EMGAS helped to promote the safe handling of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinders, with over 200,000 leaflets distributed through the retail outlets of ENOC and EPPCO and supported by a full-fledged media campaign. Door-to-door visits were conducted, with 5,000 households evaluated for the users’ knowledge on LPG safety.
Over 2,000 beneficiaries were educated on safe LPG cylinder usage at three different locations of Dubai Municipality customer care centres. Comprehensive cylinder training was offered to inspectors from the Dubai Municipality and Dubai Civil Defence to ensure that local authorities are well-prepared and equipped to handle emergency situations. They were also provided with cylinder samples with their fittings for future LPG safety trainings.
Prior to launching the campaign, EMGAS teamed up with the government authorities, as part of its ongoing commitment to promote public safety. Dubai Civil Defence, for instance, was a partner for the first-of-its-kind series of emergency workshops, aimed at raising awareness about the hazards of LPG truck incidents on the roads, as well as emergency response tactics. This improved operational efficiencies of the concerned authorities and generated positive response.
EMGAS is committed to business excellence and delivering value to all its stakeholders by providing the highest standards of public safety training and awareness programmes as part of its commitment to the society.
