Emirates Gas to distribute free LPG refills during the Holy Month of Ramadan to widows and orphans

Underlining its corporate social responsibility, Emirates Gas LLC (EMGAS), a business subsidiary of Emirates National Oil Company (ENOC), will distribute free Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) refills to underprivileged families of widows and orphans in Dubai, Ajman and Umm Al Quwain, through the Holy Month of Ramadan until the end of the year. 

Organised with the support of Dar Al Ber Society, the LPG refill distribution campaign is now an annual CSR activity by EMGAS, which has earned the CSR Label award from Dubai Chamber for its committed efforts to societal welfare and environmental care. 

EMGAS has been partnering with Dar Al Ber Society for the campaign since 2011, highlighting the company’s commitment to foster a sense of belonging and make a meaningful contribution to the local community. It also promotes the values of social unity and integration that are encouraged by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President & Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai. 

The beneficiaries will be identified by Dar Al Ber Society and EMGAS will provide them with gift vouchers entitling them to refill a 22 kg domestic cylinder for free at any time during the Holy Month until the end of the year. The campaign has been specially planned taking into consideration the increased demand for cooking gas during Ramadan. 

Hesham Ali Mustafa, Senior Director of ENOC Gas Marketing and General Manager of Emirates Gas, said: “The distribution of free LPG refills is a key component of our CSR activities, especially during the Holy Month of Ramadan. We are committed to supporting underprivileged families, and thank Dar Al Ber Society for their continued support. The campaign has been extremely successful over the last three years, when we provided the free LPG refill coupons to 300 families in Dubai and the Northern Emirates yearly.” 

Hisham Ahmed Al Zahrani, Manager of Zakat and Seasonal Projects Department at Dar Al Ber Society, conveyed the charity’s appreciation and gratitude to EMGAS for their humanitarian gesture, and allocation of 300 free gas refill vouchers, to be distributed through the organisation’s branches in Dubai, Ajman, and Umm Al Quwain. 

Al Zahrani said the collaboration is in line with the Society’s Ramadan campaign, and aligns perfectly with the spirit of compassion and tolerance that reflects the Holy Month. The Society dedicates its resources and collaborates with organisations to provide for the underprivileged during Ramadan. The Society, working for over 35 years, also receives Zakat, alms, financial and in-kind donations, to cover the needs of many, according to its mission and objectives. 

The largest supplier of LPG in the UAE, EMGAS is also the market leader in supplying a variety of LPG products and Propane used in industrial, commercial establishments and residential areas.  

EMGAS is also promoting safe usage of LPG cylinders, which was highlighted through its ‘Safe Cylinder Safe House’ campaign. Among the safe practices recommended by the company are: ensuring proper ventilation in the kitchen, good access to the regulator knob & cylinder, and making sure that the gas valve/regulator is closed before leaving the house. 

Any suspicion of a gas leak must be verified using soap water solution and never with a lighter or matchstick. In case a leak or fire is detected, the emergency numbers for contacting the police and/or Civil Defence are 999 or 997. Stoves must not be left unattended while in use, and children must not be allowed to operate LPG appliances. EMGAS also urges users to regularly inspect the stove and gas connections and replace in case of damage through specialised and authorised inspectors. 

Among the best practice recommendations are purchasing gas cylinders and accessories only from authorised gas distributors, and checking that the contracting company for cylinder replacement and maintenance work is approved by Civil Defence.
