Emirates Gas wins Dubai Chamber’s CSR Label award for 3rd consecutive year

Emirates Gas (EMGAS), a subsidiary of Emirates National Oil Company (ENOC), has secured the CSR Label award, presented for distinguished corporate social responsibility initiatives by the Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry (Dubai Chamber) for the third consecutive year. 

The award is presented by Dubai Chamber’s Centre for Responsible Business and aims to felicitate and encourage businesses in Dubai to uphold CSR best practices that benefit the marketplace, workplace, community and the environment. Khalid Saad, Marketing & Sales Manager of EMGAS, received the honour from HE Hamad Buamim, Director General of Dubai Chamber, at a ceremony held in Dubai. 

The CSR Label award, which follows the organisation winning the Dubai Quality Award, is a strong testament to the varied community-oriented initiatives undertaken by EMGAS with a focus on sustainable development and public safety. The company promotes a cleaner, cheaper and greener compressed natural gas (CNG) as automotive fuel, and is at the forefront in protecting customers from illegal import and unsafe bottling of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) at unauthorised locations. 

EMGAS is active in promoting the safe use of LPG highlighted by the successful ‘Safe Cylinder Safe House’ campaign, and in supporting underprivileged families through the free distribution of LPG refills during the Holy Month of Ramadan. Internally, the company places the highest emphasis on employee welfare through training programmes on occupational health, safety and talent development, as well as promotes Emiratisation by identifying and nurturing National talent. Last year, EMGAS also conducted three training programmes for local authorities including Dubai Police and Dubai Civil Defence, in addition to supporting an assortment of safety programmes.

The largest supplier of LPG in the UAE, EMGAS is also the market leader in supplying a variety of LPG products and propane used in industrial, commercial establishments and residential areas. The company is certified for ISO 9001 Quality management, ISO 14001 Environmental management and ISO 10002 Customer care systems, as well as OHSAS 18001. In addition to winning the prestigious Dubai Quality Award in 2012, EMGAS has also won the Dubai Award for Sustainable Transport (DAST) from the Roads & Transport Authority in 2011 and 2012. 

One of the initiatives that earned EMGAS the CSR Label award is the commitment to promote CNG as a fuel of choice, which is cleaner, greener and cheaper than petrol. The company is working to enhance the CNG refuelling infrastructure within the city of Dubai, in addition to exhibiting its plans to promote the use of CNG as an alternative fuel for the transportation sector, through dedicated CNG Daughter Stations, for potential fleet owners. 

EMGAS has introduced CNG to fleet users such as Dubai Municipality, DP World, Dubai Airports, RTA, and DEWA, among others. To initiate green solutions in gas-based applications, EMGAS has developed its first CNG mobile filling unit as a pilot project. 

EMGAS held a ‘Safe Cylinder, Safe House’ campaign to promote the safe handling of LPG cylinders, with over 200,000 LPG Cylinder Safety leaflets distributed through the retail outlets of ENOC and EPPCO. Door-to-door visits were conducted with 5,000 households evaluated for the users’ knowledge on LPG safety. Over 2,000 beneficiaries were educated on safe LPG cylinder usage at three different locations of Dubai Municipality customer care centres. 

Continuing on its tradition of supporting the less privileged in Dubai and Northern Emirates, EMGAS partners with Dar Al Ber Society to provide free LPG refills to 300 underprivileged families during the Holy Month of Ramadan and beyond. 

The Dubai Chamber’s CSR Label is a direct recognition and reward programme for good CSR practices of EMGAS. The award is open to all companies, large and small, operating in any economic sector of Dubai.
