EMAL shares Emirati CSR excellence with an international audience

Emirates Aluminium (EMAL) has taken part in major regional and international conferences and forums to share its wealth of experience and successes in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Senior figures from EMAL were on hand to showcase the industrial flagship’s impressive record in the field of CSR at recent events in Abu Dhabi.

EMAL was the Gold Sponsor ofthe Philanthropy in Education and Responsible Social Giving: When Giving is a Reward. The forum, held under the patronage of His Excellency Sheikh NahayanMabarak Al Nahayan, UAE Minister of Youth, Culture, and Community Development, was hosted by the University Leadership Council of the UAE. Yousuf Bastaki, VP Projects Phase II for EMAL was part of a panel forum to discussthe increasingly important role of philanthropy and responsible social contribution towards sustainable development.

Addressing the forum, Bastaki said: “EMAL was established as part of the 2030 Vision to build a bright and prosperous future for everyone in the UAE. As a flagship endeavour of that initiative, we are proud to be in a position to positively contribute to the lives of Emirati citizens and residents. It is a privilege to be able to build and provide careers for nationals, as well as support the community through our various CSR activities.”

Bastaki outlined EMAL’s support for the health of its community by sponsoring and encouraging sports, as well as community facilities to help improve the standards of life for those with disabilities. “Education is also a focus for us. We ensure that the local community continues to benefit from EMAL, as a company that works for the best interests of the people,” added Bastaki.

EMAL VP EHSSQ,Frank Briganti, also presented the Al Taweelah smelter’s numerous CSR and Environment, Health & Safety initiatives as an international keynote speaker at the recent seminar on Corporate Social Responsibility in a Dynamic Economy, held Under the patronage of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the Embassy of the Kingdom of Belgium, the Embassy of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and the Benelux Business Council of the UAE. The event took place on 29^th of May, 2013 and was held at Abu Dhabi Chamber.

Addressing ambassadorsand delegatesat the seminar, Briganti presented EMAL’s raft of initiatives in the areas of Health and Safety, Environment, Emiratisation, Charity, Community Dialogue, Sports and EMAL as a Centre of Excellence.

Briganti said: “As well as aiming to be a world leader in the aluminium sector, we want to be a leader in responsible and responsive business practice. The achievements we have made so far will inform and drive us forward as we implement Phase II of this important project. At EMAL we do not stand still, we always look for improvement.”
