Emirates Aluminium (EMAL) achieved a new Guinness World Records title in Abu Dhabi yesterday, constructing the Largest aluminium can sculpture. The achievement smashes the previous record by nearly 11,000 cans, with 30 Emirati EMAL PEC course trainees spending six full days to create a scale model of Abu Dhabi’s historic 200 year old Al Maqta’a Fort, using 46,556 aluminium cans on the smelter’s pristine beach in Al Taweelah.

Towering at 5.67 metres high with a base width of 3.99 metres, the record was officially announced at the close of EMAL’s inaugural Family Day yesterday by the Guinness World Record adjudicator to cheers from hundreds of employees and their relatives.  The previous record used 35,759 aluminium cans in Takaichigun, Nara, Japan, on 1 September 2012.

Saeed Fadhel Al Mazrooei, President and CEO of EMAL said: “Today’s achievement is symbolic in three ways: That we are building the Al Maqta’a fort from aluminium is symbolic as it is the metal from which we are building a brighter Emirati economic future; That all of us have come together to build this Guinness World Records attempt is testament to the strength in unity that is possessed by the nation of the United Arab Emirates; And that through uniting together for this monumental effort to break a world record, it is symbolic as we further showcase Emirati excellence positively in the global community.”
