During EEG's Community Lecture

The third lecture of the Emirates environmental Group community lecture series was a unique one. Held on the 31st of March at the Dome Hall, Dubai Customs premises, with the supplementary sustenance of EEG members Abela & Co and Crystal Gallery, the lecture was the first of its kind, with a live interactive cooking demonstration on Healthy eating habits. The lecture was very well received with over 70 attendees.

The evening started with a short motivational talk given by Ms. Habiba Al Marashi, EEG’s Chairperson and well known environmental activist. She shared some interesting data and insights to highlight the ideas and the need for eating sustainably. She emphasized the importance of reducing, managing and disposing off food wastes in a way that it does not leave a long lasting negative impact on the environment.

Renowned Chef Robin Gomes from the ARC Hospitality group demonstrated healthy and fun recipes which were nothing short of a healthy food lover’s paradise. In today’s day and age with the fast paced lifestyle every individual is looking for stress free, quick, on the go recipes and that was exactly what Chef Robin demonstrated. The idea behind the demonstration was not only to eat healthy, but sustainably as well. The food we eat determines how healthy we are; yet the food available to us may do more harm than good—both to our health, and to the health of the land and oceans that provide it. At the same time, climate change contributes to extreme weather events that threaten a secure food supply. As individual consumers, and as employees in corporations, we make decisions every day about the food we buy, which gives us great power to reshape the way we produce, process, transport, and use food. By doing our best to diversify what we eat, we not only better serve our bodies, but also the environment and oceans. Chef Robin brought the theme of sustainability and healthy cooking and eating in a very creative and fun way that every individual at the event enjoyed. The attendees also got a taste of the recipes cooked by the chef.

Since the start of EEG in 1991, the organization has grown considerably in terms of its programs. It brings together individuals, families, academic institutions and both private and governmental organizations for an environmental cause. The organization spreads awareness through both its educational and waste management programs that are spread throughout the year.

As part of the community outreach programmes of EEG, which are catered towards spreading knowledge and awareness about the environment, these lectures are free to the public and focus on a range of environmental issues through lectures, presentations, live demonstrations and movies. They are hosted on the last Tuesday of each month with expert insights from business and government leaders and influential academicians and researchers. The community lecture is a sought after event and serves as a platform for the community to network, share and learn about the latest ground breaking technologies and solutions.
