Dubai Public Library’s summer programme to nurture children’s social and personal skills

The Dubai Public Library, owned and managed by the Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), the Emirate’s dedicated Authority for culture, arts, and heritage, is giving children across Dubai the opportunity to nurture their social and personal skills through its annual summer programme, held under the theme ‘Our Summer is Arts & Culture.’ 

Open to children between the ages of 6 to 12 years, from Sunday to Thursday, 4:30pm to 7:30pm, the ‘Our Summer is Arts & Culture’ programme will be held from 3 to 28 August, 2014 in Al Twar Public Library, Al Mankhool Public Library, Hatta Public Library, Al Rashidya Public Library and Al Safa Public Library. This year, the programme focuses on communication skills, managing finances, robotic technology and arts and craft. 

Through Robotics, children with interest in science and technology can gain vivid insights into advanced technology with hands-on activities that promote basic design skills, and above all, instill the importance of teamwork. 

The Financial Skills programme provides an engaging approach for children to learn the value of money and acquire valuable insights through games, simulations, and workshops on the importance of hard work and the consequences linked to financial decisions. 

The Universal Concept of Mental Arithmetic System (UCMAS), one of the best global programmes in the development of mental arithmetic skills for children, will host state-of-the-art sessions ensuring that their learning needs are accelerated and sharpened in mental mathematics skills. 

For those creatively inclined, Dubai Public Library is hosting a Dino Art Programme, where art meets logic to enrich children’s creative expressions. Designed to allow children to discover the artist within them, the programme greatly enhances skills through creative visualisation, concept formation, sense of imagination, and abstract thinking. 

The summer programme will also offer a series of workshops to help encourage communication and develop their Social Skills through a series of leadership games, team-building activities and role playing sessions that provide opportunities for interaction, engagement, and enable children to discover their own personal goals. 

A highlight of the programme will be an array of Competitions that encourage teamwork and assist children in taking part in a variety of challenges and competitive activities to utilise the skills they have developed over the course of the programme. 

The programme is open to members for AED 400 and AED 600 for non-members. Interested participants can register for limited seats by visiting the Dubai Public Library participating branches.
