University of Dubai launches PhD program with 15 Emirati students in first batch

University of Dubai has launched a PhD degree program in Business Administration, as part of a series of new academic programs. An induction ceremony was organized by the university at Dubai Chamber for 15 Emirati students who have joined the program.

During the ceremony, Professor Ananth Rao, Chief Academic Office at University of Dubai, thanked the PhD program committee and the team based in the University for their Hard Work in the selection of the candidates. The candidates were chosen through a screening process of interviews based on scientific methodology to ensure quality and efficiency of the candidates as well as to contribute to the development of education and the economy in Dubai, the UAE and the entire region. Professor Rao also praised visiting professors who showed great keenness to work with the University of Dubai on the PhD program, and thanked the IBM Center for cooperation through its outstanding initiatives and globally renowned research laboratories.

 Welcoming the new candidates, Essa Al Zaabi, Senior Vice President for Institutional Support Sector at Dubai Chamber, said: “The introduction of the PhD program comes after reviewing the results of a study on the major challenges facing the business sector in Dubai and the UAE. The programs are designed to meet the requirements of the next phase of growth and development of the business sector in Dubai.”

He added: “The newly launched program qualifies candidates for careers in teaching, academics or research, focusing on the development of independent competencies. We are confident that the PhD program will help improve the personal and professional capabilities of individuals.

Majed Al Shamsi, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the University of Dubai said the university underwent the strict process of the Ministry of Education and Scientific Research in 2011 to adopt its new program, and waited for three years to establish the necessary infrastructure and faculty. During the period it also laid the groundwork for cooperation with universities abroad and arranged visiting faculty members. The development of infrastructure included those related to library and research. Al Shamsi said the university is now ready to provide a competitive research environment for young Emiratis who are keen to contribute to the economic development of the UAE and the Middle East.
