Dubai Customs Showcases IPR Efforts to Japanese Delegation

Dubai Customs’ IPR Department received a Japanese business delegation at its main building in Mina Rashid. Yousef Ozair, Director of Intellectual Property Rights Department (IPR), Mohammed bin Nasser, Manager of Follow-up and Process Section, and Noora Ahmed Manager - Trade Marks & Agencies recording section received the visitors.

The delegation included Hiroshi Nakamora, Head of Trademarks Division at Somituomo company, Yu Suki Siki Jushi, Head of Trademarks Division at NGB company, and representatives of Saba IPR Company.  

Ozair briefed the Japanese delegates on Dubai Customs’ rich experience in protecting intellectual property rights.

“We continually develop the skills of our employees to best protect intellectual property rights. We organize workshops and invite brand owners who explain the way their brands are violated and how best to tackle this.

“Dubai Customs also coordinates with other customs administrations in the GCC under the unified customs law. We are very interested in cooperating with the Japanese brand owners to better tackle counterfeiting. This comes within Dubai Customs efforts to facilitate trade and invite more investments” he said.

Ozair added: “We launched a Unified IPR Workforce in cooperation with other government departments which serves to enhance efforts in protecting IPR rights. The taskforce is doing a great job coordinating activities and sharing information, and this urges us to work even harder to be fully prepared for Expo 2020. We at Dubai Customs open all channels of communication with all ministries and authorities to cooperate and support Dubai in hosting this remarkable event”.

The IPR Department was established in 2005 and follows the best international standards.
