Dubai Customs inspectors at the Cargo Village seized 2.7kg of marijuana in a parcel crossing through Dubai in  transit between two Asian  countries.

Saeed Ahmed El Tayer, Director of the Department of Air Customs Centers in Dubai Customs, disclosed that the parcel sender attempted to hide the narcotic drug between clothing items (trousers and a jacket). When the parcel was passing through the x-ray device, the inspector became suspicious, as the x-ray device reflected abnormal density in this particular parcel. The inspector’s suspicions required a manual search of the parcel and its contents.

During the manual search, a plastic sack filled with herbal seeds was detected inside the parcel. Dogs, which were used for the search, reacted to the cargo. An  examination of the seeds conducted by the Dubai Customs’ Mobile Laboratory confirmed that the seeds are indeed  marijuana.

El Tayer praised the efforts exerted by the Dubai Customs’ inspectors to thwart such smuggling attempts, in regard to these efforts’ positive impact on national security. According to El Tayer, this seizure is further evidence that drug smugglers and traffickers employ any nefarious means or tricks for quick, illicit gains.

But never fear, Dubai Customs inspectors are always on the alert of such tricks and deceptive means. Thanks to their professional abilities and the extensive training courses they receive throughout the year, the inspectors are well-prepared for any type of smuggling scenario. These training courses have made them very well-acquainted with the identification of various types of drugs, inspection mechanisms and potential smuggling techniques. In addition, inspectors use state-of-the-art technological devices for inspection and search at all customs points.

El Tayer affirmed that the customs facilitations provided by Dubai in order to streamline the movement of goods in line with the directives of the WTO, go side-to-side with the commitment to the inspection and monitoring procedures that enhance the overall customs compliance, thereby guaranteeing the legitimacy of trade and the protection of the community from the risks inherent to the smuggling of these internationally prohibited substances, which negatively affect the health of drug addicts, the community and the economy as well.

Within the scope of continuous and joint coordination between Dubai Customs and the General Department of Anti-Narcotics in Dubai Police, the necessary legal actions were taken.
