Dubai Customs’ staff receive hands-on training at Dubai Courts
Dubai Court rooms have seen 18 employees of the Customs Cases & Investigation Department at Dubai Customs attending real-life court sessions. This comes as part of a practical training for enrolees of the Customs Investigation Diploma; a training programme that took place at DC’s Training Center.
The Director of Customs Cases & Investigation Department, Taha Al Suwaidi, said: “The hands-on training is meant to complement the theoretical part of the training programme. The Customs Investigation Diploma is the first-of-its-kind applied course in the field of customs cases and violation investigations. It is in line with the strategic objectives of Dubai Customs to develop employee skills and equip them with specialized knowledge that would enable them to efficiently manage customs cases.”
Al Suwaidi noted that at the first day at Dubai Courts, Judge Ahmed Ali Al Dhanhani spoke to them about formalities while a Court is in session, court types, stages of proceedings, litigations and jurisdictions, lawful courts and judiciary levels.
At their second day at Dubai Court, enrolees attended criminal and civil court sessions. They observed how the judge runs his court and how advocates defended their cases. They also witnessed how experts presented proofs and evidence supporting or negating the case.
Al Suwaidi further added that the 6-month Customs Cases course introduced the enrollees to the concept of customs cases and violations management. The programme covered several topics, including the Common Customs Law and other relevant laws, customs policies and declarations, customs tariff guide, international agreements, keys of customs cases, field visits to relevant technical departments, and legal settlement of customs cases.
