Dubai Customs participated in International Enterprise Architecture Conference which was organized by Gartner Corporation from 14 to 15 May 2012. the 2 day conference program was attended by 500 leading-edge experienced practitioners and policy-makers from around the world.

Dubai Customs presented a working paper under the title of “Dubai Customs Enterprise Connected View”, featuring the vision and mission of Dubai Customs and the experience of creativity and implementation of Customs Enterprise Connected View initiative reflecting that the concept of Enterprise Architecture Development has mainly come into existence to serve reduction of cost-effectiveness, increasing business operational capacity to face challenges, enhancing opportunities for Dubai Customs to foster consistent development and progress, besides, ensuring distinction in a fast changing diverse environment.

The presented working paper demonstrated that the keynote benefits of the Enterprise Architecture implementation is mainly represented in connection and documentation of entire components of a corporation, achieving acceleration, reliability and quality of decision-making, providing an efficient management for changes, realizing impacts of changes across a corporation and ensuring comprehensive coordination between administration and business prospect from one hand, and technical prospect on the other hand. this besides, saving time through re-investment of projects which have already been set out and documented and also spread Customs and non- Customs interconnected integral knowledge.

The Enterprise Architecture program has successfully achieved cost value savingat 51 million dirhams in the years between 2009 and 2011, this is represented in the cost effectiveness of transactions clearance during the last three years while keeping in mind the program is containing a huge feedback of information about Dubai Customs, i.e. process, responsibilities, objectives and interconnection between departments from which users can track the impact of action before being decided, save cost, improve and proceed the process of decision-making. for feeding data of information into the system, a tool for communication has been set out along with the management of Enterprise Architecture considering it a complementary strategic link for all divisions, departments and section at Dubai Customs.

The program also produce wide range taxonomies of detailed information about all divisions, departments and sections at Dubai Customs as a single reliable source containing every piece of information and the program also enabledinteroperabilityand integrated vision, mission and objectives of Dubai Customs with all business units with aim of supporting the dynamic business requirements, defining and interrelating information of the corporation to facilitate proactive decision-making process, help managers and subordinates in finalizing required analysis while making out decisions and evaluating their reactions along with drafting out synergic and supportive plans.

It is worth mentioning that Dubai Customs is the first leading government department in the region at the level of Arabian countries which adopted before three years the implementation and operation of enterprise architecture project. by this project, Dubai Customs had received the Enterprise Architecture Excellence Award from the Open Group- the global consortium maintaining staff offices in San Francisco-US, which have diverse membership that spans all sectors of the IT community- customers, systems and solutions suppliers-tool vendors, integrators and consultants from around the world. Dubai Customs, by the same project, has also earned the International Enterprise Architecture Award in the International Enterprise Architecture Conference which was hosted in Bangalore- India in 2011, ranked top above USA, Holland, Britain, South Africa, India, Brazil and Singapore.
